Living Well Therapy and Hypnotherapy for Cancer Patients

I use a holistic, evidence-based approach which combines clinical hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), relaxation and mindfulness.

With Hypno-CBT®, hypnotherapy is used to enhance CBT. In this way, patients’ physical and mental wellbeing can be supported with many elements of cancer treatment including radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Research shows (Franch et al, 2023) that hypnosis is particularly effective as an additional or adjunctive therapy during cancer treatment and can help with:

  • Pain Management
  • Nausea, Anticipatory Nausea and Vomiting
  • Phobias (Needles, Scanners, Masks)
  • Hot Flashes in Breast Cancer Patients
  • Relaxation for Sleep and Stress Management

In addition, hypnotherapy can be used pre and post-surgery to alleviate nerves, manage pain, and improve recovery times.

Therapy can help you cope with whatever aspect of your illness or treatment that is causing you distress currently, whether it’s symptoms such as pain and insomnia, difficult thoughts or feelings, worries about the future, or fears and phobias about surgery or treatment.

You don’t have to do it alone. Please get in touch for support or further information.

Applications of Hypnosis as an Adjuvant in Oncological Settings

Franch et al (2023) reviewed the use of hypnosis in several cancer studies concluding that:

‘Apart from 1 study, all studies showed that interventions improved the measured variables compared to a control group. Most studies showed that hypnosis has positive effects on reducing anxiety, pain, nausea, fatigue, drug use, and length of hospital stays. Hypnosis also improves depressive symptoms, insomnia, hot flashes, well-being, and quality of life, and helps increase adherence to treatment. When used by qualified professionals as an adjuvant to well-established treatments, hypnosis improves symptoms caused by oncological interventions and the disease itself. In addition, hypnosis has no side effects.’

Why work with me?

Anne Glennie | Cancer Therapist | 01851 850700

I work with WICCI (Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative) in Stornoway as part of their counselling and therapy team. It is a privilege to work with this wonderful charity and to support individuals and families here affected by cancer.

While difficult at times, it is especially gratifying to be able to offer help and hope—with practical techniques that can alleviate anxiety, reduce treatment symptoms and side effects, making a difference when people need it most. It is through my work at WICCI, that I decided to specialise in holistic therapy for chronic pain and cancer support as a Living Well with Cancer Therapist.
